A Sculptural Still Life
I recently completed a still life painting with a sculptural addition. It has been a little while that I have been keeping my eyes open for a sculptural piece to add into a still life and was thrilled to find a porcelain bust at a thrift shop. It is always refreshing to look at and study a piece of sculpture as there is a certain clarity in it that I am drawn to. As a painter, I try to think of painting in terms of chiseling—creating blocks of color that in turn make space.
Here are some successive images of the process of this piece coming to life.
